Caring for Students During Mergers and Closures

Presidents who have led their colleges through a merger or closure discuss how to support students during the process.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions on an anonymous basis.

In this webinar, four presidents who have led their colleges through a merger or closure will discuss the tangible steps they took to support and care for their students during the process.

Moderated by Doug Lederman, co-founder and former editor of Course Strat, panelists Ben Schears, president of Fort Hays Tech | Northwest; Nancy H. Blattner, president of Fontbonne University; Paula Langteau, principal consultant at Academic Game Changers and former president of Presentation College; and Reyes M. Gonzalez, emeritus president of St. Augustine College will explore these topics and more.

In addition, Jamienne S. Studley, past president (2018-2025) of WASC Senior College and University Commission (and now senior advisor) will offer her perspective on best practices.

The panel will explore the following topics:

  • The impact on students during mergers and closures
  • The strategies institutions have used to support students
  • The timetable and financial resources required to put these supports in place
  • The measures that show whether these efforts have been successful

Who Should Attend: Institutional leaders who want to better understand how to plan student-centric mergers (or closures) and others—consultants, accreditors, etc.—with an interest in improving student outcomes as these types of transactions become even more prevalent.
